Division of Disease Prevention

The Division of Disease Prevention works across three focus areas to better the lives of all Maine people:

  • Children have a healthy start
  • Healthy and safe living
  • Chronic disease prevention and control

How do we do that?

  • We work with Maine families to reduce health issues and link them to tools that enable them to lead a healthy life.
  • We help to reduce chronic disease risk factors for Maine people throughout their life span by:
    • Helping people quit smoking
    • showing people the harm in tobacco and encourging them not to start
    • creating environments that support healthy eating and physical activity
    • providing information and tools for people to take control of their own health
    • helping people to understand how they can prevent injuries
  • We promote early detection and follow-up of: chronic diseases (such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease) and metabolic disorders.
  • We support Mainers who have chronic disease(s) or conditions by helping them learn to manage and control their condition while maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • We provide training, data, and resources to partners and stakeholders statewide.
