Restaurant Inspection Postings

Restaurant inspection in the state of New Jersey is regulated by Chapter 24 of the NJ State Sanitary Code.  Restaurants are rated on the following scale:
  • Satisfactory (S) - Currently in compliance with major aspects of the State Sanitary Code (white placard)
  • Conditional (C) - One or more major violations, numerous minor violations and ongoing uncorrected minor violations (orange placard)
  • Unsatisfactory (U) - Violations to such an extent that the health department has requested voluntary closure (red placard)
These placards should be posted in public view near the entrance to the facility.
